Apply Online for a Credit Card with Rewards

By Mike Thereon, July 06, 2007

There are many different advantages towards using the internet to conduct all of your financial business and one of the best advantages to this (aside from the convenience of being able to apply online for a credit card) is the ability for you to compare different credit cards side by side on one screen. Most good credit cards will really stand out in this format and most companies will have websites that allow you to do this form of comparison shopping very easily indeed. When you consider what consumers want in a credit card nowadays the answer invariably seems to be the fact that credit card rewards are very important and nowadays people don’t really get another credit card unless there’s something about it they find interesting. With the exception of affinity credit cards which are discussed elsewhere it is important to realize that almost every single interesting aspect of a credit card is related in some way to a credit card rewards program. Since these types of programs appear to be very interesting we have put together a collection of the questions that are asked most frequently about credit card rewards.

What are credit card rewards?

These are essentially extra parts of a credit card deal that allow the consumer some special advantage because of their use of the credit card. Good credit cards often have reward programs attached to them and many consumers absolutely love the fact that they get these rewards. Credit card companies love rewards as well but this is because they are able to structure the rewards in such a way as to make them completely beside the point if the person in question runs a balance. For people with bad credit history who tend to run balances it is very important to realize that balances are very bad for credit card rewards. For a person that has good credit and never runs a balance these types of rewards can be very helpful to other parts of their lives.

What types of credit card rewards are available?

Interestingly enough the topic of credit card rewards is one that can be discussed at length for a very large number of pages. Due to the differences in the philosophies of different credit card companies there are very many different kinds of credit card reward programs around and while many of them fall into similar categories they are distinct enough in order to be considered quite different from one another. There are many different types of credit card rewards around and for the purposes of this article we will briefly discuss a few of the more common ones you will see floating around in the ether.

Cash Back Credit Cards:

These are perhaps the most popular types of cards around today and in terms of future potential also happen to be the types of credit cards that are growing in popularity over the whole landscape. It is very important to realize that while these can be amazing reward programs that cash rewards credit cards tend to actually offer the lowest point ratios. Because the points earned are generally around 1% of the amount purchased and usually cap at a few hundred dollars it becomes very easy to see how easy it is for cash back credit cards to provide less overall value than some of the other types.

Airline Miles Cards:

In terms of credit cards it can be very easy for people to recognize airline miles cards because these cards are the ones that started the popularization. The air miles cards are the ones that got people really thinking about the idea of credit card rewards and once that started it was only a matter of time before they became as popular as they are today. It is a great credit card that offers this because every purchase you make allows you to get a few miles. These miles can add up over a long period of time and result in you getting some great deals like free flights and hotel rooms on trips.

Aside from these two types of cards there are a number of different others like gas credit cards, hotel credit cards, diner’s credit cards and many others. And within these groups are sub categories that have normal credit cards, credit cards for people with bad credit, fair credit cards and many other types. The diversity available within the field of credit card rewards is simply astounding and all indications are that it will only get stronger with time.
