Mike Thereon

A multi-media intern at Credit-land.com, I did my graduation in Journalism from University of Texas, Austin. I’ve also worked for lifestyle magazines and gained invaluable experience doing freelance design gigs. I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity to express my creativity through illustrations and by adding interactive features to make stories on the editorial more interesting.

Painting is one of my favourite hobbies, and some of my work is displayed in galleries around Austin as well. Knowing that I am not confident about my expenditure traits and instincts, I choose not to own any credit cards. I almost entirely live with my debit card. Given the unbelievable temptation that I have for cheese steaks, books and chai lattes, I have decided to apply for a credit card only when I am confident that I can manage my credit well and not drastically ruin my credit score of credit history.

I also have had experience at a marketing company, which is of help to me when I write about the good and bad of credit card marketing strategies. Many individuals fail to distinguish between good and bad cards. This is where I would like to make a difference -by spreading awareness.

Credit in the Doghouse? You`re Not Alone.

Sunday, December 11, 2011

Since 2008, many consumers have found themselves in a bind when it comes to getting credit, and then once they get the credit, they find it hard to pay off their balances. In 2010 alone, credit card issuers had to charge off 11 percent of bank accounts. A charge off occurs when a consumer is six months or more behind on their payments, the credit card issuer then sells the information to a debt collector, and then the debt collector collects the payment. In 2011, charge offs have decreased, and are currently around six percent of bank accounts. Even still, some consumers still are having a hard time accessing credit due to prior mistakes.

0% APR Cards Making a Comeback: More Beneficial For Consumers

Saturday, November 19, 2011

They couldn`t come back at a more perfect time. Zero percent APR credit card had disappeared from the market, to be replaced by 2.99% APR credit cards. These cards used to be profitable for banks when consumers didn`t pay off their debt in the allotted introductory time period. After that time period, APRs would jump to over 15%. This means that banks have had to make their offers more attractive in order to entice consumers. And they have done this by offering better promotions.

Avoid Overspending With Credit Cards

Wednesday, October 26, 2011

Overspending is a real issue when it comes to using a credit card. Credit cards are hard to maneuver, because they`re resources aren`t finite. Sure, you may have a spending limit, but all of it is money that you don`t own. Overspending can occur when you put everyday purchases on a credit card. Imagine this; you go into a grocery store with the sole intent of purchasing eggs and milk. That shouldn`t cost more than $7 right? Wrong. Next thing you know you`re in the pastry aisle and disbelievingly you`ve racked up $120 in Nutri-Grain Bars and Biscottis. Maybe you don`t overspend at the grocery store, you might overspend when shopping online or when you go out on dates, whatever the case may be. We`ve all been there and done that.
