I WOULD LIKE TO APPLY FOR A GAS CREIT CARD. I HAD A BANKRUPSY BUT ITS BEEN ALMOST SEVEN YEARS AGO. SINCE THEN I HAVE BOUGHT AHOME, AND HAVE TWO CARS FINANCED IN MY NAME. I HAVE WORKED HARD TO TRY AND REBUILD MY CREDIT. IS THERE A GAS CARD THAT WOULD BE BETTER FOR ME THAN ANOTHER?
Answer:

It is of great advantage that you have several types of loans, especially if they are in good standing. The fact that you qualified for a mortgage and car loans is a good sign, meaning that your credit has significantly improved during these seven years. If so, you could be approved for some of the best gasoline credit cards on the market. However, your approval for a certain credit card will depend on the current level of your credit rating.

If you managed to improve credit to the level of good credit score (660-749), if there are no late payments or outstanding balances in your name, you could benefit from Discover® Open Road Card, a low APR offer with up to 5% cash back on gas purchases. Or its good alternative - PerfectCardTM MasterCard®of Chase Bank, which gives up to 6% on eligible gas purchases at any gas station. These credit cards have strict approval requirements and the bank decision will be made after closely assessing your risk.

In case your credit is just half-way to the good level (620-650 FICO score) and you have no more than 1 credit card open with a limit less than $5,000, you can qualify for an "average", or "limited" credit card with gas rewards. Such is No Hassle PointsSM Rewards card from Capital One Bank which gives 5 points per dollar spent on gas purchases.

Before you apply for any of these gas credit cards, make sure that you have a good income and stable job. Check your credit report for any inaccuracies and clear it of any negative records if any. The fact that you had bankruptcy might be a stumbling block but if creditors see years of faultless payment history and only one year left before the bankruptcy record deletion, you'll have good chances to be approved.
