I do not live in the US (New Zealand) who is purchasing a property in NY state. I do not have a SS number, can I get a credit card? I am a dentist with great credit here. I will have an ITIN number shortly.

Answer:
If you are going to work in NY, you can get a social security number, since it is aimed at tracking taxes. Considered a temporary working resident, under section 205(c)(2) of the Social Security Act, you can get a social security number.
Having a social security number, you are able to obtain a credit card, but your New Zealand credit history will not be taken into account. You need to start up a new credit history with a no credit card or a secured credit card. |
