I have applyed for a credir card before, but have been turned down because I am 18 and do not have a credit history. How can I get a credit card for college if no one will give me one because I do not have a credit history. I keep getting things in the mail to apply, but then get turned down. I will be ging to college in August and need a little help. Please let me know what to do.
Answer:
There are several banks that issue credit cards for young people with limited credit history. Out top choice would be Standard Platinum for Young Adults by Capital One. This is an unsecured card designed especially for young people who are building credit. There are no maintenance or set up fees. The ongoing APR is currently 19.8%, however till December, 2008 you can enjoy 0% APR on purchases. You have good chances of being approved for this card. You can also consider Citi mtvU Platinum Select Visa Card for College Students. This is also a student card for young adults with limited credit. You do not need to pay a set up fee or a maintenance fee. Ongoing APR can be as low as 12.99% but the decision about your APR will be made by the bank according to your financial background. The biggest advantage of this card is that it has a special rewards programmed for students.Another option is Orchard Bank Classic MasterCard. People with no credit are eligible for this card. Its ongoing APR is 14.9%. The introductory period with 0% APR on purchases is 6 months. Ending on your credit history the bank may charge you a maintenance fee. We recommend you to apply for Standard Platinum for Young Adults by Capital One first to increase your chances of being approved.
