I have read through many of the postings about securing credit at different FICO credit score levels. Using your advise I have now secured additional credit specifically, used for improving my credit standing. My current credit score is 662. What I\'d like to know, is it possible to remove items that were once viewed as negative prior to automatic discharge in early 2009. When contacting the bureau\'s, they state that I have to contact the former creditors for removal. Contacting the former creditors, they state that I have to contact the bureau\'s. As you can see, I\'m getting the olf soft shoe routine. If these two past \"Fully Paid\" collection items were not part of my credit files, I believe my credit score would exceed 750. Which by the way, puts me in the good to excellent rating category. My frustration is with a system that is overly punitive and patently unfair. It is designed to extract and consume without fail, and those that don\'t participate, are forced into second class
Answer:
You need to review your report every 3-4 years to check it for inaccuracies or omissions. You can obtain a copy of your credit report and dispute errors. When a credit reporting agency receives a dispute, it must reinvestigate and record the current status of the disputed items within a certain period of time. If it cannot verify a disputed item, it must delete it, or correct, in case it has an erroneous information. If a reinvestigation does not resolve your dispute, the Fair Credit Reporting Act permits you to file a statement of up to 100 words to explain your side of the story. The credit reporting agency must include this explanation in your report each time it sends it out. But if the negative information is accurate, only the passage of time can assure its removal. With the score of 662 you have good credit history. In case you want to make it excellent, you need to get the reputation of a positive credit payer, so don't have late payments. Apply for a card you qualify for, and when getting it, pay off your balances on time. Proving yourself a good credit risk, you have an opportunity to get the best credit cards in future.
