Last year I got laid off from my job. I don't have to tell you that jobs are hard to find. I worked low paying jobs until I found the one I am currently employed with. My problem is I didn't have the money to pay my property taxes and now my credit rating has suffered and I can't get a loan to pay my taxes. I don't want to sell my home. I would like a credit card with a credit balance of $5000.00 with a low fixed APR. Is there such a credit card out there tailored for me?
I sure would like to have one for my taxes right now. I have always had great credit, but hard times fall on everyone at one time or another and this is my time I guess. Can you help?
Thanks.
Answer:

You are right - selling your home is the last resort you should think about. As you say your credit is damaged, you are extremely limited in your choice of credit cards, but it is not impossible to find one. Unfortunately, you will not be able to qualify for a $5000.00 limit, low APR credit card, which is usually meant for good/excellent credit customers, but you could have a sigh of relief and improve your situation a little with special credit offers for damaged credit history.

We suggest you have a look at Centennial Gold MasterCard®/Visa or Gold MasterCard®/Visa both from First PREMIER Bank, an issuer catering for customers with damaged (bad) credit history. These cards offer only $250 credit limit but they allow a regular $50 credit limit increase, if you make your first two minimum payments on time. Thus a couple of months of responsible credit use could leave you with a more significant credit limit. If you don't think that such size credit limits will do you any good, you could try applying for Capital One Standard Platinum credit card, a product for average credit customers. But you should know that Capital One Bank is a credit provider working with people building their credit history and not repairing it. You should be very careful applying for this $3,000 limit credit card as you can be denied due to your defaults. We advise you take your time and improve your credit rating before you apply for this Capital One credit card. A credit denial is the last thing you would need now. Good luck.
