The Target RedCard does not offer a points program or cash back rewards like a traditional reward earning credit card. Nor do they offer reward certificates like many traditional store cards do. However, they do offer the 5% discount applied directly at the register at the time of checkout. An immediate discount can debatably be considered a better deal than having to wait. However, the credit card has a high APR which will definitely wipe out any discount you may receive. Also the APR is usually higher on store cards because they are working in partnership with another entity and everyone is taking a piece of the pie. Usually in negotiated deals, the store and the bank will share the interest and fees which result in a high APR to give all the players enough skin in the game to make it worth it.

If you want to earn rewards with a credit card, we can recommend you look through rewards credit cards from our partners. For example, you may consider the Discover it® Cash Back credit card with a $0 annual fee and 15 months 0% Intro APR on purchases (17.24% - 28.24% Variable APR after that). The card allows to earn 5% cash back at different places each quarter up to the quarterly maximum after activation and unlimited 1% cash back on all other purchases. Moreover, at the end of the first year all the cash back you've earned will be matched. The earned rewards can be redeemed in any amount, at any time for any purchases.
