You don’t say which card you’re looking at, but as a rule, credit card limits depend on your credit history, your annual income, and how much credit you currently have with a particular issuing bank. If you have excellent credit, you can usually get a credit card with a limit in the $10,000 - $30,000 range if you are getting your first card with the bank that issues the card.
On average, customers with excellent credit are awarded credit limits in the $5,000 - $8,000 range, but certain cards are known for offering higher credit limits, such as American Express. They can give limits as high as $30,000. If your credit is not so good, though, you won’t be able to get a card with such a high limit – people with only average credit tend to get limits in the $2,000 - $4,500 range.
One way to get a higher total line of credit is to get more than one credit card, but only do this if you have good or excellent credit, and remember to get cards from different issuing banks, because a bank will likely have a maximum total amount of credit they will offer any certain customer. If you have, for example, a Citi Diamond Preferred Card and a Citi Simplicity Card, both of them will count towards your total credit with Citi.
Good luck getting that high credit limit!
