Aeromexico Partners with Alaska Airlines on Frequent Flyer Programs

Alaska Airlines and Aeromexico have signed a deal that will benefit frequent flyers on both of the airlines. The new partnershipis a win-win for members of their frequent traveler programs.

Club Premier Aeromexico members can earn miles when they book flights on Alaska Airlines, and Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan members can now earn miles flying on Aeromexico and those miles will count toward MVP elite level status.Travelers will also be able to use miles from one airline to get awards from the other.

Why Compete When You Can Collaborate?

Alaska Airlines currently serves eight destinations in Mexico. The carrier flies to Mexico out of Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and San Jose. Aeromexico recently launched service between Los Angeles and La Paz, Mexico.

The combination of routes will let Alaska Airlines customers fly to 45 cities in Mexico and 11 countries in Central and South America.Joe Sprague, the vice president of marketing at Alaska Airlines, noted that Aeromexico customers can take advantage of Alaska Airlines’ “travel options to some of the West Coast’s most popular destinations, including Seattle and Portland, Oregon.”

In December of 2012 the two airlines began codesharing on some flights, but their frequent flyer club members still could not earn miles on each other’s airlines. Now Alaska MileagePlan Members and Aeromexico Club Premier members will be able to take advantage of the mileage programs too.

Alaska Airlines’ managing director of loyalty marketing and customer advocacy, Caroline Boren, said that frequent flyers will “enjoy easy connections and streamlined handling of checked baggage between both airlines.”

Alaska Airlines serves 95 destinations across the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico and Canada. Aeromexicolands in 80 destinations throughout Mexico, Central and South America, the U.S., Canada, Europe and Asia.

Alaska Airlines has partnerships with 14 airlines. Mileage Plan members have additional mileage earning opportunities using Alaska Airlines Visa and the Mileage Plan dining program. Club Premier Aeromexico loyalty program members can earn Premier Kilometers when they buy items at over 80 member companies worldwide.
