American Airlines and Marriott Team Up to Reward Travelers

Add to Favorites:

Marriott and American Airlines have announced a new partnership that allows members to move their rewards from the hotel chain’s frequent stay program to the airline’s frequent flyer program.

American’ Airlines AAdvantage will now accept Marriott Rewards points and convert them into AAdvantage miles.  You will need a minimum of 10,000 Marriott Rewards points to transfer and those points will equal 2,000 AAdvantage miles. The more points a member transfers, the more miles they will be worth. Here are some other transfer options:

  • 20,000 points for 5,000 miles
  • 30,000 points for 10,000 miles
  • 70,000 points for 25,000 miles
  • 140,000 points for 50,000 miles

Marriott membership earns miles

Travelers can also earn AAdvantage miles at any of Marriott’s 3,700 properties worldwide. Eligible properties include the 14 hotel brands under the Marriott umbrella which include Courtyard by Marriott, JW Marriott and Renaissance by Marriott hotels.

Members will earn one or two miles per dollar depending on the property and transaction. You can earn 500 AAdvantage bonus miles when you stay at participating Marriott properties between July 15 and August 15, 2013.

Marriott Rewards redemptions for hotel stays start at category 1 hotels which cost 7,500 points per night and go up to category 9 properties which run 45,000 points per night.  Marriott often runs promotions offering extra free nights when members book qualifying stays.

American Airlines AAdvantage benefits

American Airlines serves over 260 airports across the globe, with hubs in Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami and New York. More than 3,500 American Airline flights per day land in international destinations like London, Madrid and Tokyo as well as cities across the United States. AAdvantage members get perks like free bag check, flight upgrades, priority boarding, and discounted membership to Admirals Club VIP lounges.

To make the most of membership in the AAdvantage program, travelers can apply for the Citi/AAdvantage credit card, which lets them earn miles for every purchase they make. The Chase Marriott Rewards credit card also gives members rewards points on all purchases.
