American Airlines customers flying out of San Juan, Puerto Rico, have six new nonstop flights to the Caribbean to choose from as part of a codeshare agreement with Seaborne Airlines, a Caribbean carrier headquartered in St. Croix.
The new destinations are Dominica; Fort-de-France, Martinique; Point-a-Pitre, Guadeloupe; Tortola, British Virgin Islands; Vieques, Puerto Rico; and Virgin Gorda, British Virgin Islands.
“American is committed to providing our customers with easy and convenient access to destinations around the globe,” said Kurt Stache, American’s Vice President – Strategic Alliances. “This new codeshare relationship with Seaborne affirms that commitment by expanding our global network to include more travel options to the Caribbean.”
Seaborne has been operating for 20 years. They offer 625 departures a week to 11 Caribbean destinations. Connecting flights leave from Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in San Juan and they fly seaplanes in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Frequent fliers can rack up more miles
American Airlines AAdvantage frequent flyer loyalty program members traveling on flights operated by Seaborne under the American Airlines codeshare agreement will be able to earn miles. While AAdvantage members can earn miles on Seaborne flights effective immediately, they cannot yet redeem AAdvantage miles on Seaborne flights. That is expected to change later this year, when Seaborne begins accepting reward mile redemptions.
Folks who frequently travel to the Caribbean may want to consider applying for the Citi Platinum Select /AAdvantage World MasterCard. Caribbean-bound travelers can earn even more AAdvantage miles with these new flight options. Cardholders get double miles on all American Airlines purchases, and Citi is currently offering a sign-on bonus of 40,000 bonus miles after spending $3,000 in the first three months of having the card.
AAdvantage members with a Citi / AAdvantage credit card also get a free checked bag on every flight, priority boarding on American Airlines flights and Seaborne codeshare flights, and a 25% discount on in-flight purchases.
