American Express and Airbnb Partner Up

If you have ever wished you could use your Amex points to book a place to stay on Airbnb, you’re in luck. American Express and Airbnb have inked a deal letting you do just that by purchasing Airbnb eGift cards using your points.

The gift cards can be purchased in $100 and $250 denominations using points on the Amex Membership Rewards website. Once the eGift card arrives via email it can be used to book stays on Airbnb. This rewards option is only available to U.S. cardholders.

Unique holiday travel experiences

This partnership comes just in time for the holidays so members can also give the gift of travel to their loved ones. And according to the newest American Express Spending & Saving Tracker, 62% of Americans are wishing for the gift of travel this season.

American Express rewards members can already use their points to book stays at hotels, but this new partnership will offer even more alternatives.

“Airbnb is about creating your own special travel experience, while allowing you to feel a sense of belonging wherever you go around the world,” said Andrea La Mesa, Regional Director for North America at Airbnb. “Through the Membership Rewards program, we’re excited that Card Members can now use points for Airbnb eGift cards that they can use to rent unique places to stay from local hosts in more than 34,000 cities and 190 countries.”

Airbnb a breakout concept

The San Francisco, California-based home accommodation booking site was founded in 2008, and since then has become a global community marketplace where people can look for and book stays from people who actually live in the places they want to visit, whether that’s NYC, LA, London, Shanghai, or somewhere else. They can choose from a variety of accommodations, ranging from an apartment to a villa, including castles and even tree houses.

American Express also partnered with Uber this summer to give members two points per dollar spent on Uber rides. They can also use their reward points to pay for their rides.
