On September 16 Tim McGraw will take the stage at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City for an American Express Unstaged event. Fans don’t have to buy a ticket to catch the show. It will stream live at www.amexunstaged.com at 9pm Eastern time.
Vevo and YouTube partner with American Express to put on the Unstaged concert series, which has featured Kings of Leon (directed by SNL alum Fred Armisen), Vampire Weekend (directed by Steve Buscemi), The Killers (directed by Werner Herzog) and more. This will be the fifteenth American Express Unstaged show since the series’ launch in summer 2010.
Bennett Miller will direct this installment of the concert series. Miller directed Capote, Moneyball, and the upcoming Foxcatcher. McGraw called Miller “an incredibly talented director,” saying, “I know with his unique, creative point of view, this will be a really special experience for me and my fans on the day my album comes out.”
As for Miller, he said he is “looking forward to shooting this show in a way that will allow [McGraw’s] fans to get a little closer and appreciate him a bit more directly than they might ever have before.”
Fan perks and encores
McGraw fans that visit the amexunstaged.com site in the days before the concert will be able to watch videos offering behind-the-scenes inspiration and the stories that sparked the songs on McGraw’s new album. The digital content is exclusive to American Express; fans won’t see it anywhere else.
During the concert, viewers can choose which camera to look through. A director’s camera and various alternate viewpoint cameras will be available and folks can switch views as they wish throughout the show.
To get McGraw on for an encore, fans can tweet using the hashtag #AmexUNSTAGED before and during the performance. If they tweet enough, McGraw will take the stage for an encore, and fans can even choose the song through social media crowdsourcing.
A rebroadcast will be available immediately after the performance and will play on a loop for 48 hours starting at 11pm Eastern on September 17.
