People with an iPhone and a Chase bank account or credit card now have a new, more user-friendly app to do much of their banking. The updated Chase Mobile App lets customers check account status, deposit checks, transfer funds and pay bills.
The app, which is free from the iTunes app store, also gives users a personalized screen to match their location. Eighteen different familiar images, from the Brooklyn Bridge to a San Francisco cable car, automatically pop up to welcome users at the login screen, depending on where they are. (Note that users must have their iPhone’s location services feature turned on for this feature to work.) Chase plans to add more location images with later updates to the app.
The app also greets users according to the time of day, lending a more personalized feel to the mobile banking experience. With these changes, Chase hopes to emulate the feel of going to the teller window and interacting with a banker in person.
Easier to navigate
The user interface of the Chase app has been streamlined to make all aspects of the mobile banking experience more intuitive for customers. The login process is faster, and the home page has four main tabs for the features people use most: account information, bill pay, transfers and deposits. Other services, including finding the nearest ATM, setting up account alerts and contacting customer service, are also available.
New colors and fonts are designed to highlight new activity so users can easily see what’s happening with their account. For example, there is a larger display font for current bank and credit card balances.
New features and customer response
With this update users can switch to a Spanish language version of the app. The app also now lets users receive and respond to secure messages from Chase regarding their account.
Chase made these changes according to customer feedback. Their head of Digital for Consumer and Community Banking, Gavin Michael, said customers’ top priority for mobile banking is “speed and simplicity.”
So far, users seem to like the update, with the majority of reviews on the iTunes app store applauding the redesign. Only a few reviewers griped that they liked the old version better, or that the new version does not work for them. Out of 540 user reviews, 390 gave the app five out of five stars. The average user rating for the app is four-and-a-half stars.
The Chase Mobile App for Android is scheduled for an update later this year.
