Cheek to Cheek, which was released by on September 23, is Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga’s first collaborative jazz album. The show will feature many of the classic jazz standards, both duets and solos, which are on the album, including “But Beautiful” and “I Won’t Dance.” The duo will be accompanied by a live orchestra and a big band.
On the album Lady Gaga sings the “Lush Life,” a solo piece, which is accompanied by Tony Bennett singing “Sophisticated Lady.” These songs are special to the duo. “I loved making ‘Lush Life,’ Tony mentored me emotionally through the process,” says Gaga, while Bennett adds, “I sang ‘Sophisticated Lady’ to answer her on ‘Lush Life,’ and because Duke Ellington wrote it, who collaborated with Billy Strayhorn, the writer of ‘Lush Life.'”
The pair met in 2011, and after recording their rendition of “The Lady Is a Tramp,” decided they wanted to continue their musical partnership and work on a jazz album that showcased their chemistry. “What I really love about being a jazz singer is that jazz artists are very creative, very honest, from phrase to phrase, says Bennett.” Gaga adds “We wanted to make something that sounded perfect because of the quality of the emotion … the honesty.” Cheek to Cheek took a year to finish, and was recorded in New York City.
Citi is presenting the event, which is being produced by Live Nation, an entertainment company which includes Ticketmaster, LN Media and Artist Nation Management, and Live Nation & House of Blues Concerts.
