Discover has a launched College Covered, a new website designed to provide high school students, parents and guidance counselors the inside scoop on the ins and outs of preparing for college, whether that is writing their essay, tips on college life or how to deal with the financial aspects of paying for school.

College Covered is backed by Discover Student Loans, and they exhibited it in Boston at the National Association for College Admission Counseling conference in early September. "Getting into and paying for college is one of the most important journeys that families embark upon, and we are excited that CollegeCovered.com can help pave that path," said Mike Boush, senior vice president of Discover Student Loans. "This site serves as a trusted resource for students, parents, and guidance counselors on the college planning journey."

"I just sent one of my children to college for the first time and parts of the experience were daunting," Boush said. "I can speak for myself that not having to spend hours searching multiple sites is a big help for parents."

Getting ready for college

Paying for college can be a very real issue for parents and students. The site takes this issue on offering visitors information on how to apply for financial aid by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA for short. In that section, they answer questions both students and parents often have about the process and form, including why they need to fill it out, what to expect and how long it will take to fill it out.

They also provided information on preparing for campus visits, writing application essays, and other topics connected to getting into college. But along with getting into college and paying for it they also take on topics about college life, with information about everything from choosing a major to dorm life.
