Discover Card Adds Seasonal Benefits

Discover has long been known for its cash back rewards for cardholders. The credit card issuer recently announced a little bit of spring fever for its members. Discover will be offering card holders special perks available from April 1 through June 30, including 5% cash back in several stores, expanded redemption options and discounts at ShopDiscover.

Discover will pay 5% cash back at home improvement stores, clothing stores and department stores. The cash back reward is capped at a total of $400 for the period; cardholders will get 1% cash back for any additional purchases in those categories. Each quarter, Discover offers 5% cash back in select retail categories. Cardholders must sign up on the Discover website each quarter for the extra cash back.

The company is also expanding its redemption options for reward points. New partners in its rewards program will include Old Navy, Olive Garden and Bed Bath & Beyond. Discover will also add more name-brand items, like digital cameras and tools, that cardholders can “purchase” with reward points.

Discover also maintains its own online shopping mall, ShopDiscover, where purchases using the Discover card earn 5% to 20% cash back. ShopDiscover has about 200 stores including Best Buy, Home Depot, Sears and even the group-buying site Groupon. By the end of the second quarter, ShopDiscover plans to add new retailers including Expedia, Golfsmith, Bed Bath & Beyond and Lowe’s.
