For the second year in a row, Discover Card is offering hockey fans a chance to experience the StanleyCup up close and personal, launching their Day With the Cup™ contest on Facebook last week. The contest runs through April 12 and asks fans to submit a photo that proves how passionate they are about hockey, along with a 1,000 character photo caption describing why they deserve a day with the Stanley Cup. Discover will choose three finalists to be voted on by the Facebook community at large, and the top vote-getter wins round trip airfare, hotel accommodations, and tickets to a Stanley Cup Final game.
Jennifer Murillo, vice president of brand communications at Discover, says, “We`re expecting to see some pretty phenomenal photos and essays that showcase how truly passionate hockey fans are.”
Discover Card is the official card of the National Hockey League (NHL), so of course they have a vested interest in getting people excited about the Stanley Cup – but who doesn`t want to watch their favorite hockey teams battle it out on the ice and have a chance to see the blood fly from the front row?
Everyone Can Be a Winner
For those who don’t win the contest, Credit-Land.com offers another way to enjoy some hockey using cash back rewards from your Discover Card.
Many people don`t know that credit card networks and card-issuing banks all have their own online shopping malls, where you can save much more than the usual 1%, 2%, or even 5% cash back rewards. For those in the market for tickets to games, concerts, or even the theater, all cardholders have to do is go through Discover’s website to their partner rewards mall. Simply surf over to their ShopDiscover page and check out the list of retailers that offer up to a 20% cashback bonus.
If you`re in the market for hockey tickets, click through to TicketsNow.com, where you’ll get a 10% cash back bonus on any purchase you make there. How much were tickets to the Stanley Cup last year? For Game 7, prices were steep, starting at around $200 per ticket – and going as high as $850 on the resale market. If you get your tickets through Discover Card`s partnership with TicketsNow.com, a $200 ticket will earn you $20 cash back.
Fly Your Way to Savings
We don`t yet know where the Stanley Cup will be held in 2012 or who will be playing, but if you decide to splash out and fly to see the game, using Discover’s Miles card will let you rack up the frequent flier miles, earning twice the miles on the first $3,000 of travel and restaurant purchases you make each year, plus 12,000 bonus miles in the first year of card membership. You get 1,000 miles each month you make a qualifying purchase during the first year.
So go ahead and enter that Discover Card Stanley Cup contest and give it your best shot, but don`t despair if your entry isn’t the big winner. You can still save on a hockey vacation when you take advantage of the cash back rewards offered by your Discover Card.
