American Express is offering cardholders a free membership at ShopRunner.com, which includes two-day free shipping at 80 retailers. Earlier this year, AmEx offered members a one-year membership, which costs $79. The difference this time is there is no end date as long as the member’s American Express card is on file as the default payment method.
ShopRunner membership cost is comparable to Amazon Prime and has similar benefits. You get free shipping on all products and orders at any of the retail shops featured on its site regardless of how little or how much you spend, whether that’s $5 or $5,000.
Retailers affiliated with the site include American Eagle, Babies R Us, Bare Necessities, GNC and the NBA Store. This week luxury retailer Neiman Marcus was added to the lineup.
There is a sign up page for members on the website. You need to enter a valid American Express card to register. A two-click American Express payment option has been integrated in the site.
Consumers also get free shipping on returns, which can take the sting out of doing your holiday shopping online. However, restocking fees may apply depending upon the retailer you’re ordering from, so it pays to check on that before placing the order especially if you think you may have to return something.
All American Express consumer cards are eligible for this promotion including American Express Platinum, Premiere Rewards Gold, or Blue Cash – or one of their other cards. Small Business cardholders can also sign up for a free membership as well. However, prepaid cards, American Express Corporate Cards and American Express-branded cards aren’t. Small business cards are also eligible.
ShopRunner is a members-only shopping site selling everything from yard furniture to lingerie. It was founded in 2010. American Express is one of its backers.
