When Jerry Seinfeld brought his act to New York last month, the audience had one thing in common. Make that two. They were all fans of the iconic comedian. And they all carry a Citi ThankYou card (or knew someone that did), because only cardholders were able to buy tickets to the event.
Citi’s announcement this week of triple points for entertainment purchases on ThankYou Premier credit card puts the spotlight on concerts and other events for that credit card lineup. Dining will also earn triple points. Dinner and a show anyone? And if the venue is out of town, or it’s just time to take a break, Premier cardholders now earn double points for airfare and hotel bookings.
“Dining, entertainment and travel are key categories where our cardmembers want their loyalty recognized,” said Chris Fred, Director of Rewards Product Management, Citi Cards. “Citi ThankYou Premier has been enhanced to deliver what we heard cardmembers value most – more opportunities to earn points.”
Exclusive events and preferred tickets
The Citi Private Pass program, which has offered pre-sale tickets, preferred tickets and VIP packages to over 10,000 events so far this year, is available to any Citi cardholder as part of its benefits package. It was already in place when the bank introduced a series of events exclusively for ThankYou cardholders.
The Seinfeld performance, which took place at Jazz at Lincoln Center in Time Warner Center, was part of the lineup. Tickets were not free. They cost $90 to $110. But only people who had a ThankYou card were able to buy them when they went on sale three weeks before the show. Seinfeld even peppered his routine with credit card references in a nod to ticketholders.
“Citi is always looking for new ways to unlock incredible access for our customers,” said Jennifer Breithaupt, SVP of Entertainment Marketing at Citi.
Larry David, co-creator of the Seinfeld show, and the irreverent Kathy Griffin at the New York Comedy Festival are on the upcoming roster of events for ThankYou cardholders. But comedy is not the only focus. Katy Perry also had a concert in Los Angeles this past week to promote her Prism album. And there is still time to get tickets to football clinics with Jerry Rice or Rob Gronkowski scheduled for next month. The Eli Manning youth clinic though and a Paul Kahan dining experience in Chicago are sold out, but check the website for updates as more culinary treats and exclusive engagements are expected.
Tickets to these events can only be purchased with a Citi ThankYou card, including the Preferred, Premier and Prestige versions. Triple points awarded only to Premier cardholders. Preferred members earn double points for every dollar spent on entertainment.
