News: More Rewards from SPG and American Express - Credit-Land.com

With the Starwood Preferred Guest credit card from American Express people now get more, including no foreign transaction fees, and free Wi-Fi when traveling and at hotspots, while business cardholders can now visit the Sheraton Club Lounges for SPG American Express OPEN Card Members for free. The new benefits go into effect on August 11, 2015.

“The SPG Credit Card from American Express has always been a favorite among travel insiders, and the new benefits will deliver even greater value to the ‘always on’ traveler,” said Eva Reda, SVP, Co-brand Partnerships. “We understand what our Card Members want most, and we know the enhanced card will offer the convenience and value they seek.”

With the new benefits the membership fee will go up from $65 to $95. For new cardholders the annual fee for the first year is waved.

How it works

With the new perks from American Express and Starwood you can access the following benefits:

• No Foreign Transaction Fees –Fees from American Express are waived when cardholders use their card to buy merchandise when traveling overseas, whether that's dinner out or new jeans.

• Free Unlimited Boingo Wi-Fi – Cardholders get free unlimited Wi-Fi access through the Boingo American Express Preferred Plan. They can use it on up to four devices at over 1,000,000 hotspots worldwide, without racking up Wi-Fi roaming fees.

• Complimentary Premium In-Room Internet Access – People can login to the Wi-Fi for free at SPG Participating Hotels.

• Put your feet up at Sheraton Club Lounges for SPG American Express OPEN Card Members – business card holders get complementary access to the Sheraton Club Lounges, which includes a free breakfast, hors d’oeuvres, and breakfast. And they can bring a colleague or friend.

And then there's more

With this card people can earn up five Starpoints for each dollar spent at SPG Participating Hotels and one point per dollar on everything else. They also get credit for five nights and two stays which can be used for gaining SPG elite status once a year.

Once cardholders spend $30,000 during the year they are eligible for gold status. People can get more information at the website.
