The global market research and mail tracking service firms, Synovate and Mintel, are releasing curious figures concerning new credit card applications offered in mail in 2008. The slash on direct mailing activity was noted in the 4th quarter of 2007 and since then has only been in progress. In 2007 it was a 14% drop as compared to 2006 but in February 2008 the figures were even more frustrating.
Financial analysts and companies refer the decrease in direct credit card mail to the mortgage crisis, turbulence on the credit market and depressed US economy, and in all likelihood households will see even fewer mail offers at short notice. There is a credit card company, however, that seems to have escaped the recession and which credit card you are sure to receive in your mail box.

Joint Credit Accounts

April, 14th the final decision to accomplish the merger between the two carriers Delta and Northwest was finally announced. After blowing hot and cold and lingering out the agreement for quite a while the airlines agreed on the terms of the merger and are waiting for the regulatory approval to start operating.
Customers of the two carriers with their frequent flyer program affiliated credit cards are not as yet certain about the definitely positive result of the merger, but the airlines insist it will be neutral or favorable.
There are still however, some questions that bother customers and that the airlines will try to resolve.

Credit Card Industry Trends

TransUnion, one of the four national credit reporting agencies, has published the first in a planned series of consumer lending analyses report on the credit card industry for the 4th quarter of 2007. The trends noticed by the agency are not so encouraging and the data varies from sad to alarming based on the local cost of living and regional economic situation.
Though the tension on the credit card lending market is growing, banks and companies keep on offering their products. Under the circumstances, however, they are becoming more selective choosing customers and notably tougher when it comes to sub-prime lending.

Visa Credit Card Profits

After the initial public offering which Visa performed on March, 19, its stock has increased more than 70% and its overall profit had risen 28% by May 2008. Such a steep increase in Visa profits is not only the result of the public offering where a share was sold at $44, but also the logical consequence of its growing activity outside the United States.
Previously always accepted at millions of locations worldwide, Visa is never going to slack its credit business grip and continues to report about its customer base increasing rather than otherwise. So, what is Visa' closest customer target?

Tight Credit Market

We are staying tuned for whatever new solutions the Federal Reserve may offer to ease the tension on the tight US and European credit card market. And we did not have to wait long. On May, 2, the Fed announced its determination to increase the amount of its cash auctions, or the size of credit it can issue to banks, and to allow banks to use student loans, car loans and credit card debt as collateral for its loans.
The Federal Reserve took the measures citing the never receding liquidity pressure in credit markets in the USA and Europe whose banks are also holders of dollar loans in the mortgage sector.

Luxury Credit Card

Citibank credit card holders might not have seen a better offer on the market yet. In the credit crunch environment it may seem a bit queer for card companies to provide more, better and easily available credit but Citi is evidently going to stand out and prove customers that it is stable in revenues and quite reliable.
The current and potential customers can evaluate the bank's stable financial power by its new product - Diamond Preferred credit card - which, however, is not accessible to the wide credit using public. Luxury - that's what they call the new Citibank plastic.

Damaging Good Credit

A consumer rights organization based in San-Francisco, Consumer Action, warns US cardholders that their credit card accounts may soon be closed, and the reason for the closure may seem to customers rather offensive, to put it mildly. Today, if your card company has noticed you to be inactive about using your plastic for three years, it has the right to close your account without a beforehand notice.
It is twice as disappointing to get a card closed if it has no default payments, high credit limit and good debt ratio. Nevertheless, card closure does take place in some of US good credit households.
Why do companies make such anti-consumer arrangements and how can you avoid losing your card once you are at risk?
