There are rewards credit cards for travel, dining, and gas, but now animal lovers are getting a rewards credit card of their own.
The American Kennel Club (AKC) has teamed up with Alliance Data’s Retail Services business to offer a co-branded credit card that provides rewards for pet-related purchases. Points can be redeemed for a variety of rewards including merchandise, gift cards and travel.
The AKC’s vice president of development, Daphna Straus, said members are “passionate about their dogs” and that the new credit card will “offer dog owners increased purchasing flexibility and added benefits.”
Cardholders will earn reward points for every dollar spent on the card, with bonus points for money spent on AKC services and select pet-related purchases such as veterinarian visits, pet store supplies and dog show merchandise.
Personalized card designs to show off your pooch
The AKC rewards credit card will allow cardholders to put their favorite photo of their dog on their credit card. Dog owners who show their canines at major competitions, such as the Westminster Dog Show, will have the opportunity to apply for the card on-site, between grooming their dogs and parading them around the show floor.
The card has no annual fee, zero liability for unauthorized purchases, a low variable APR depending on creditworthiness, and online account management that is compatible with smartphones and tablets. Customer service is available around the clock and cash advances are available through a large network of ATMs.
