Another new credit card is hitting the market today, with Citi Business and American Airlines teaming up to offer the CitiBusiness/AAdvantage World MasterCard. This card will give a five percent annual mileage bonus on purchases, double miles for all American Airlines purchases as well as purchases from partnering merchants, and a free checked bag for card members and up to four travel companions.
Miles and More Miles
For small business owners who find themselves traveling frequently, getting free flights and bonus miles is a top priority. Any business card that offers a way to earn more miles is good news, and the CitiBusiness/AAdvantage World MasterCard will let them earn 30,000 bonus miles when they spend $1,000 on the card within the first three months of opening an account.
After that, card members get two miles for every dollar spent on American Airlines purchases, as well as certain office supply shops, telecommunications and car rental companies. Purchases everywhere else will earn one mile per dollar.
VIP Travel Benefits
When traveling on American Airlines, small business owners using this credit card, along with up to four of their companions, will get priority boarding – giving them extra time to put bags into overhead compartments and settle into their seats. The card holder and four travel companions can also check their first bag for free, which saves up to $250 round-trip.
Once in flight, card members save 25 percent on in-flight purchases like food, beverages, and headsets. Every dollar spent on board will earn two frequent flyer miles, so go ahead and order that extra glass of wine while you enjoy a movie.
When renewing card membership each year, CitiBusiness/AAdvantage members will get a five percent mileage bonus based on their yearly spending, and if they spend at least $30,000 a year, card members can buy a companion fare for only $99 when purchasing a domestic round-trip ticket. (Taxes will be extra, and may be up to $44 per ticket.)
Since this is a card for small business owners, of course it carries special features for businesses. To help business owners better manage their spending, they`ll get annual and quarterly summaries of their accounts, which will break down spending by employee, category, and amount. They`ll also have access to 24/7 assistance with travel arrangements like hotel reservations, dining, car rental, and more.
Card holders can order cards for employees and set a separate spending limit for each card – that way your frugal office manager can have a bigger budget for office supplies, while your spendthrift business partner gets a low limit to prevent any three-martini lunches.
In the press release announcing the new credit card, Suzanne Rubin, president of American Airlines` AAdvantage Loyalty Program, said, “Business owners value the rewards and enhanced customer experience offered by this card. From the flight discounts to the mileage bonuses, all of these benefits highlight American`s commitment to the success and continued loyalty of our customers who are business owners.”
Ralph Andretta, head of co-brands and loyalty for Citi, said that the two companies “recognize the important role of small businesses in our economy, and have worked together to develop a product that helps take their travel and spending farther. This new card delivers what we`ve heard small businesses want and need: benefits that save time and money when they travel, and ways to get more from their spending like an annual mileage bonus.”
