Starwood Introduces iPad Booking App

Starwood’s Preferred Guest (SPG) loyalty program released a new app this month designed for the iPad. Earlier this year, they launched similar apps for iPhones and Android-based mobile devices.

Members can use the app to explore new destinations, share experiences, and book stays directly from their iPad. It is available in English and Chinese, with more languages coming.

Virtually exploring destinations

The SPG app integrates photography and social media channels like Instagram into its design. It also provides in-depth information about the hotels and destinations.

The Explore section provides users with  information about the destinations they are considering visiting, including photos especially curated for the app. Reviews of local clubs, restaurants, cafes and other venues around the hotel are included so visitors can see what’s hot. That section also includes information, reviews and photos of 100 resorts hand-picked by SPG members using social media.

In the Life section, users can check out the rewards and elite benefits included in the Starwood’s Preferred Guest loyalty program. Account information is also stored in this area, so members can find out how many points they have available, as well as access information on upcoming stays and special offers.

Bid on exclusive events

Members can also take a virtual tour of exclusive events, and bid on them, whether it’s a virtual backstage tour or biding on a seat in the SPG Luxury Suite at the US Open. Travelers can also use Instagram to see photos of the events and connect with other travelers by using the #spglife hashtag.

When ready to book a stay, members use a secure interface within the app to make a reservation at any of their properties using three taps.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. is a hotel chain with 1,162 properties in 100 countries. They operate nine different brands including the St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, Westin, and Element. Starwood Preferred Guest is their loyalty program, in which members can earn rewards with stays, and redeem them for free nights or airline tickets.
