Walmart Offers to Cardholders Savings at the Pump

Walmart’s Great Gas Rollback program has returned to help its cardholders save on fuel purchases through July 7th. Customers who use a Walmart gift card will save 10 cents per gallon of gas. Customers will get 15 cents off per gallon if they use a Walmart MoneyCard® or Walmart credit card to buy gas.

The fuel discounts will be available in 21 states at over 1,000 Murphy USA and Walmart gas stations. The retailer most recently offered the discount from August 31 through December 24, 2012. Company representatives said that the program has saved Walmart customers over $100 million in the past two years.

Participating States

Discounts will be available in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. For a list of participating stations, go to www.walmart.com/gas.

The promotion is not only designed to offer discounts to drivers, but to get those people to drive to Walmart and shop more. The price of gas impacted U.S. sales at Walmart so far this year, according to the retailer. Shoppers made fewer trips to the store due to higher U.S. payroll taxes and delayed income tax refunds.

Other options to save at the pump include using credit cards that offer a percentage off each dollar spent, rather than pennies off the gallon. Credit-Land did a comprehensive study on saving at the pump last September and found that even getting 1% back on the dollar can add up to great savings especially when gas prices rise, which happens every summer as families take to the road.
