A new partnership between AARP and Zipcar means AARP members will save 33% on a Zipcar membership. Under the agreement AARP members pay only $40 a year to join the car-sharing network. This is a savings of $20 off the usual $60 annual membership fee. AARP members will also get a $40 credit toward car reservations throughout the year.

Zipcar members have access to hundreds of cars they can use anytime. Cars are parked in cities, at airports, on college campuses, and other places people need to use a car. Members make a reservation using the Zipcar mobile app on their phone or online. Using their Zipcar membership card, folks unlock the car, drive it for as long as they need, then leave it parked in a designated reserved spot for another member to use.

There are over 10,000 Zipcars in circulation across the globe, and the fleet includes sedans, minivans, hybrid vehicles, and other types of cars. Zipcar is a popular option in cities where it’s inconvenient to have your own car, or for people who only need to use a car occasionally.

AARP’s 38 million members will benefit from the new partnership with Zipcar, said Clay Buckley, vice president of lifestyle at AARP Services, Inc.—a subsidiary of AARP that offers products and services to AARP members. “Our agreement with Zipcar offers deep savings and gives our members, especially Boomers, the mobility they need at a fraction of the cost of car ownership.”

AARP no longer just for retired people

AARP is a nonprofit organization that advocates for affordable healthcare, employment opportunities, income security, retirement planning services and more. Anyone age 50 or over can join AARP and take advantage of discounts on travel, memberships, and other products.

Zipcar pricing varies from city to city

Depending on where you are driving, Zipcar charges a varying hourly rate. Members pay an annual fee in addition to paying the hourly rate. However, if people plan to use Zipcar more than just occasionally, they can sign up for a monthly membership plan (priced between $6 and $50 per month) and the annual fee will be waived.

Although hourly rates are different depending on your location, they always include gas and insurance. For more information on the Zipcar/AARP discount, go to www.aarpdiscounts.com/zipcar. All you need to sign up for a Zipcar membership is your driver’s license and credit card. Zipcar is a subsidiary of Avis Budget Group.
