How to choose
grocery rewards CREDIT CARD
There are credit cards that earn elevated rewards in changing categories, which usually include grocery shopping or wholesale clubs, or both. Rewards earnings are usually limited to the quarterly maximum spend and require activation. For example, the Discover it Cash Back card pays 5% cash back in rotating categories on up to $1,500 in purchases per quarter when you activate. Once the quarter maximum is reached, you will continue earning 1% cash back, and all other purchases will always earn 1% cash back. Discover's rotating categories include grocery stores, wholesale clubs, Walmart.com, and some other categories. Those categories pay up to 5% once a year for three months when you activate.

Grocery rewards credit cards can exclude wholesale clubs such as BJ's, Costco, and Sam's Club and big-box stores like Walmart and Target. If these are places you often find yourself shopping at, look for credit cards that offer rewards in those categories or store-branded credit cards. Such cards pay a higher rate on purchases in those and some additional categories. For example, they may also offer elevated rewards on gas purchases. All other purchases usually earn 1% back. If you choose a store credit card, you can earn increased rewards in categories like gas, restaurants, travel or other purchases, and a standard 1% back elsewhere.
- Plus, for a limited time, earn a total of 10 ThankYou® Points per $1 spent on hotel, car rentals, and attractions (excluding air travel) booked on the Citi Travel℠ portal through June 30, 2024.
- Earn 3 Points per $1 spent at Gas Stations, Air Travel and Other Hotels

Now as you decided on a grocery reward program, consider credit card fees. Many credit cards for grocery shopping come with no annual fees. Still, some of the best credit cards for groceries may charge annual fees. It's especially true for co-branded credit cards that often require a paid membership to qualify for a credit card offer. In addition to the annual fee, cards may charge high interest rates. Luckily, those can be avoided if the card offers introductory rates. 0% intro APRs are extremely handy on a new credit card: they give you some time to get used to a new rewards program and help you maximize your earnings. Just remember that zero rates won't be there forever, they will eventually end, so you may want to pay off any balance you may have by the end of the zero introductory period to avoid interest payments.
Intro APR on Purchases: 0% Intro APR (15 months)
Ongoing APR: 17.24% - 28.24% Variable APR
