I used to have Amex Skymiles credit card and was a loyal member but after their bonus program change I closed the card and moved from Skyteam to Oneworld. Now I need one more credit card but don’t want a credit card from an airline. A card that will allow me to earn cash back will do. Do you have any suggestions?

The content is accurate at the time of publication and is subject to change.

Indeed, SkyMiles received a lot of negative feedback when they changed their program. Many members even went to other frequent flyer programs or simply applied for regular credit cards. And it is not surprising, many banks offer credit cards that allow earning bonus miles towards your future flights. These cards are not tied to particular airlines and miles you earn are basically cash back rewards. For example, look at the Discover it® Miles. This card will allow you to earn unlimited 1.5x Miles per dollar spent on all your purchases. Earned miles can be redeemed with any airline of your choice or you can redeem them for cash in the form of a statement credit. If you redeem for airline tickets, there are no blackout dates or seat restrictions. Also, fees included into an airline ticket purchase, such as taxes, surcharges and other fees, will be included in the overall calculation when you redeem your miles.
