American Express will be cutting the complimentary restaurant access from the perks packages for some credit cards that come along with Priority Pass membership. This change is slated to go into effect on August 1st. This change does not apply to all credit cards. Right now the cards that will be stripped of this benefit include the American Express Platinum credit cards and American Express Centurion Cards, as well as the Hilton Ascend, Hilton Aspire, and Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant credit cards. Cardholders with the Business Platinum Card from American Express will also see this change hitting their benefits package.
In the past, American Express began adding restaurants into the mix and at these airport restaurants, cardholders could use credits to eat for free. Currently, there are 28 restaurants located at US airports and 16 others located abroad taking part in the Priority Pass restaurant program.
The Priority Pass lounge program gives cardholders access to 1200 lounges worldwide. They can be found in 629 airports located in 140 countries. As of now, all indicators suggest that cardholders will be able to get into the Priority Pass lounges as usual.
Some AMEX cards still offer restaurant access
There is good news for some cardholders. As of now, it appears that certain cards should keep offering restaurant access, including:
- Chase Sapphire Reserve
- U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve Visa Infinite Card
- Citi Prestige® Card (Citi is a Credit-Land.com advertising partner)
The offerings in this program included not only restaurants but bars and cafes as well.
Getting Priority Pass on your own
People can get access to the Priority Pass program on their own they just have to pay for it and there are three options to choose from. Individuals can opt to go for the Standard membership which will cost them $99 for the year, and then they pay $32 each time they go to the lounge.
They can also choose to spring for the Standard Plus membership option which costs $299, and includes ten free visits, and from that point on they get charged $32.
Last but not least is the Prestige membership which costs $429, and all visits are free. Members just pay $32 for their guests.
