American Express Membership Rewards Frequent Flyers – Hurry to Get 40 Percent More Points!

The content is accurate at the time of publication and is subject to change.

From now through next Thursday, September 27, 2012, American Express and British Airways are offering an incentive for members to turn AmEx Membership Rewards points to the British Airways Executive Club. For this short amount of time, members who move their points will get a 40 percent bonus on those points. Offers like this happen only once in a while, so anyone whose American Express card offers Membership Rewards should take advantage of it while they can.

How The Offer Works

To take advantage of this offer, American Express holders must be enrolled in the British Airways Executive Club, which they can do by going to Then they simply go to the American Express Membership Rewards website and transfer their points to British Airways, where they will convert to Avios and earn a 40 percent bonus! A member who transfers 1,000 American Express Membership Rewards Points will get 1,400 Avios under this promotion.

Avios can be used for a number of things – hotels, flight upgrades, or British Airways tickets, but they can also be used to book travel on any oneworld flight. The oneworld alliance has 12 participating airlines, including American Airlines, British Airways, Air Berlin and Qantas, and serves over 800 airports in 150 countries, so the vacation-destination options are endless.

A Sample Itinerary

Where could this bonus offer take you? Almost anywhere you want to go, depending on how many points you transfer. An economy-class flight from Los Angeles to New York City (an approximate value of $600) costs 12,500 Avios, and a flight from New York to Paris costs 20,000 Avios (the average value of this flight is $1,650). An American Express Membership Rewards member with only 15,000 Membership rewards points can bump that up to 21,000 Avios with this bonus offer – enough for the international itinerary.

Promotions like this one don’t come along every day, and this is a big one. Anyone planning holiday travel this winter will want to jump on this offer now and save the points for that – but book soon, because reward ticket travel fills up, and blackout dates can apply. Transfer the points now and start planning your trip soon, and come winter vacation you could be flying for free.
