In New York City this week, American Express is teaming with PAPER Magazine and Target to create a foodie’s dream supermarket in a Chelsea Warehouse.
The first annual Super (Duper) Market is a free event, open to the public and running for three days – July 13, 14, and 15. It will offer a wide variety of artisanal foods, some from east coast favorites like Sour Puss Pickles, Brooklyn Soda Works, Dough and Speedy Romeo, and some from the west coast, including Tartine Bakery and Scribe Winery.
Editor and publisher of PAPER Magazine, Kim Hastreiter, says “Instead of starting bands or making art, so many young, creative people are baking, cooking, butchering and growing or raising food naturally, sustainably and responsibly. It is to these idealistic innovators and to this spirit that I tip my hat and dedicate the Super (Duper) Market.”
Special Discounts and Events for AMEX Cardholders
American Express, corporate sponsors of this event along with Target, will give Super (Duper) Market shoppers a ten percent discount when they use their American Express cards for purchases up to $250. They will also give a dinner on July 13 with exclusive access for American Express foodie members. For a seat at the table, American Express cardholders should make sure they are signed up for Sync, the program that lets them sync their American Express cards with Twitter, Foursquare and Facebook for great discounts and the opportunity to participate in exclusive contests.
Cardholders without a Twitter account will want to start one, so they can follow @AmericanExpress and have access to all discounts. American Express Blue Cash customers – whether they carry the Blue Cash Preferred or the Blue Cash Everyday cards – will earn reward dollars from shopping at the Super (Duper) market, and even more reward dollars for shopping at actual supermarkets. The Blue Cash Preferred Card gives six percent back on all grocery purchases and the Blue Cash Everyday Card gives three percent on all grocery spending. Reward dollars are eligible for redemption in the form of statement credits, gift cards and merchandise.
Pop-Up Shopping and Savings
The Super (Duper) Market is a pop-up shop that features food by some of the hottest names in local and artisanal cooking. Some of the popular vendors will include:
From New York:
There will also be live cooking demonstrations and appearances by celebrities – and food-lovers – like artist Maira Kalman, hotelier Andre Balazs (who will sell his Locust Farm organic eggs) and designer Norma Kamali (who sells her own olive oil and organic juice).
Kids who tag along with their foodie parents can visit the Target booth for creative food workshops that will teach them how to make banana dogs, pretzel butterflies, and more. Clare Crespo of the YummyFun Kooking Series will host the lessons, recommended for ages 10 and under.
Don’t Leave Home Without It
The American Express slogan, “don’t leave home without it” is more apt than ever at the pop-up shop foodie extravaganza. You don’t need an American Express card to get in, but since you’ll save ten percent and have the opportunity for exclusive deals through Twitter, you’ll be sorry if you don’t have one. The Blue Cash Everyday and Blue Cash Preferred American Express cards are some of the best cash-back cards offered. Foodies, take note! Put your AmEx in your pocket and go local and organic-hog wild.
