American Express is sponsoring several events for the Tribeca Film Festival, which is slated to begin on April 17 in New York. People can enjoy gourmet popcorn and a family street fair in between movies during the festival, now in its 12th year. It runs through April 28th.

Popcorn Pop-Up

Brooklyn Popcorn will hit the streets a few days before opening night with an interactive mobile popcorn truck that will also be selling tickets to festival screenings. The truck will be in Manhattan from April 13 to 17, giving out free gourmet popcorn in five flavors. People can follow @americanexpress on Twitter to find out where the truck is handing out treats and selling tickets.

Family Festival

On Saturday, April 27, the AmEx-sponsored Tribeca Family Festival will run from 10am to 6pm on Greenwich Street. Stages will feature Broadway performances and local talent, and food, drink and merchandise will be available from neighborhood merchants. Kids and parents can attend a free showing of The Smurfs at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center Theater, with free popcorn, compliments of American Express.

Opening and Closing events

The festival will open with a screening of Mistaken for Strangers, a movie about Brooklyn-based band, The National, while on tour. It is directed by Tom Berninger, brother of the band’s frontman.

Closing night will feature the latest American Express Unstaged event, with the band Vampire Weekend performing in a concert directed by Steve Buscemi. The show will be live-streamed on amexunstaged.com. Fans can also watch it on their iPhones or iPads via YouTube mobile or the VEVO app.
