Paying with mobile wallets can make life easier and now due to a partnership between Discover and Samsung Pay, cardholders can use Samsung’s mobile wallet with their Discover card when making purchases in the U.S. They will be able to use Samsung Pay at most checkout terminals, online and via apps.

Excitement is on high at both Discover and Samsung, with this partnership slated to give cardholders more options when making payments. “The ability to use Samsung Pay provides Discover cardmembers with yet another innovative and convenient way to pay,” said Diane Offereins, Discover’s president of payment services.

“As a growing number of consumers use their mobile devices to make every day purchases, we continue to expand our digital services so cardmembers have more choice in how they use their Discover cards,” he said.

People can use Samsung Pay on some of the newest Samsung Galaxy smartphones, including the Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Active, Gear S2 (with NFC only) and Gear S3. It can also be used along with wearable devices.

Using Samsung Pay

Samsung Pay can be used at most terminals when checking out because it’s designed to be used with terminals outfitted with Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) technology, as well as the newer Near Field Communication (NFC) technology.

This means that it can be used at the older terminals, as well as the newer ones, so people can use their Discover Card at just about any retailer that accepts Discover cards and Samsung Pay.
“Now, Discover cardmembers can shop with the security and simplicity of Samsung Pay, by accessing their Discover card, right alongside membership cards, while enjoying nearby deals, and best of all, leaving bulky wallets at home,” said Nana Murugesan, VP/GM of services and new business at Samsung Electronics America.

Some things change but rewards stay the same

Do cardholders still get the benefits and rewards they typically get when swiping their Discover card? The answer is yes, they still earn rewards and get access to the benefits that typically come with their card, including being protected against unauthorized users making purchases with their card, and U.S.-based customer care.

When using their card they earn Discover Cashback Bonus and Miles rewards, but when using Samsung Pay they can also earn Samsung Rewards points, which can then be cashed in for gift cards and Samsung products. They also get entry into instant win giveaways that feature trips as prizes along with other merchandise.
