Discover’s cashback bonus may now be even more interesting to consumers with the news that Apple Pay and Discover have rolled out a new feature – one letting cardholders redeem their cashback for a statement credit via Apple Pay right after making a purchase with the app.

Discover cardholders must be using at the least an iPhone 6 (or a newer version) to take advantage of this feature. There are a few more prerequisites too, including downloading the Discover Mobile app version 8.9.0 (or higher) into their smartphone.

Their Discover Card should be loaded into Apple Pay, and last but not least, the rewards balance they are using should be more than the amount of their purchase.

When all of this is in place getting cash back is easy. “Cashback Bonus redemption through Apple Pay can happen in just two touches for Discover cardmembers,” said Szabolcs Paldy, vice president of e-business for Discover.

“We are committed to providing simple and valuable solutions to our customers wherever and whenever they need them. Customer experience hinges on embracing mobile-first technologies like Apple Pay, and this new ability will make Cashback Bonus redemption even easier and more convenient for our cardmembers,” he said.

Getting started redeeming with Apple Pay

When people want to redeem their cashback bonus through Apple Pay, all they need to do is make a purchase with their Discover Card by using Apple Pay. Once that is done they click on Tap for Details, which is located in the Discover redemption message found in their Apple Wallet.

Now it’s time to redeem rewards, which can be done by clicking the option to redeem their cash back bonus for a statement credit. The amount they redeem is based upon the purchase they just made.

Security, security, security

When using a Discover card with Apple Pay the user’s card number is not actually stored on their phone, and it is not located on the server’s at Apple. To allow purchases to go through the system generates a one of a kind Device Account Number, which is then encrypted and stored in the iPhones matrix.

When they make a purchase it is authorized by the use of a unique dynamic security code. These mechanisms are in place to increase security.

People whose cellphone service is with T-Mobile may have to use the Discover App to get their cash back. To find out more about this feature visit the website.
