Just in time for the holiday season when people will be out shopping and getting ready to travel, Citi has upped the coverage on benefits they offer cardholders. The programs getting an upgrade include Citi Price Rewind, Trip Cancellation & Interruption Protection, Worldwide Car Rental Insurance, Trip Delay and Lost Baggage Protection.
“We now offer the longest coverage period of any major credit card company for damage and theft purchase protection.” said Paula Kelley, Managing Director, Customer Solutions, Citi Cards.
Better prices, more coverage
Whether buying a computer, a smartphone or something else with your eligible Citi card or ThankYou® Points, merchandise is covered against damage or theft for 90 days of purchase or delivery of the item. Each item is covered for up to the amount paid with your Citi card or ThankYou® Points, but the maximum coverage per item is up to $10,000 per incident and up to $50,000 per year, per Citi card account.
If the item is covered with its own warranty, Citi cardholders receive an extra 24 months of coverage, provided the total coverage will not exceed 84 months from the purchase date. The maximum coverage is limited to the cost of repair or replace, the purchase price of the item, the amount charged to the Citi card or $10,000 per item, whichever is less.
The Citi® Price Rewind® program now searches for the best price for sixty days and refunds the difference in price for up to $500 per item and $2,500 per year.
Travelers get a boost
Renting a car, and wondering whether or not to take the insurance? If you have a Citi card you are covered for theft and damage up to $75,000 when paying with your eligible Citi card or ThankYou® Points and declining the rental company’s collision loss/damage insurance.
Citi has increased the number of reasons they will reimburse people for non-refundable expenses. Everyone is covered for up to $1,500 annually, but some may be covered up to $5,000 depending on the card they have.
Individual with one of Citi’s travel cards get a few more perks including:
- When delayed for 12 hours or more, people are reimbursed for meals, hotel rooms, toiletries, and ground transportation, up to $500 per covered traveler, per trip.
- Lost Baggage Protection offers coverage up to $3,000 per person, per trip when baggage is lost or stolen. In New York the amount is $2,000 per bag. Coverage includes: cameras, jewelry, skis and golf clubs. And if baggage is delayed they will be reimbursed for essentials, up to $500 per trip.
- If a medical emergency happens on a trip, Citi offers services and referrals worldwide. The services and referrals are provided for free, but a traveler will have to pay for any services her or she uses.
- Citi cardholders may be reimbursed up to $5,000 per covered traveler per trip when a trip is canceled or missed due to bad weather, sickness, or injury.
