Citibank® cardholders will see some big changes to their credit card benefits packages due to Citi’s restructuring of their rewards program. What kind of changes can they expect to see come down the pike? They will no longer have access to a variety of perks including Worldwide Travel Accident Insurance, Trip Delay Protection, Baggage Delay Protection, and Price Rewind to name a few. These benefits and others will be eliminated starting September 22, 2019, so cardholders who use them might want to take advantage of them before that date.
Cardholders are probably wondering which of Citi’s credit cards are affected by these rather sweeping changes. It looks like many of their credit cards will see changes to the benefits package. Right now the Citi Prestige Card, Citi Premier℠ Card, Citi® Double Cash Card – 18 month BT offer and Citi’s line up of co-branded cards with American Airline all appear to be in the mix.
But people with the Costco Anywhere Visa® Card by Citi will reportedly keep their benefits.
The full list of cuts
Cardholders can expect the following benefits to be dropped from their benefits package:
- Trip Cancellation & Interruption Protection
- Trip Delay Protection
- Baggage Delay Protection
- Lost Baggage Protection
- Roadside Assistance Dispatch Service
- Travel & Emergency Assistance
- Worldwide Car Rental Insurance
- Citi Price Rewind
- Worldwide Travel Accident Insurance
- 90 Day Return Protection
On top of these cuts, reportedly Extended Warranty and Purchase Protection will no longer be available to cardholders with the Citi® Double Cash Card – 18 month BT offer and Citi Dividend credit cards. Other cardholders will keep these benefits.
A bright side
What if you make a purchase before the expiration date of these benefits? For the most part cardholders will still be covered for purchases they complete before the benefits expire. But there are two benefits that this stipulation does not apply to – roadside assistance and travel & emergency assistance. These benefits will end on September 22, 2019, no matter when cardholders made their purchase. This is something to keep in mind.
