Consumers worried about having their identities stolen may be interested in a new product that sends out personalized alerts when suspicious activity is found on their credit card, checking or saving account.

LifeLock Advantage and LifeLock Ultimate Plus are now available from LifeLock, Inc. The enhanced products provide protection against identity theft by monitoring a network that includes all withdrawals, purchases and balance transfers in excess of limits pre-set by the consumer.

LifeLock monitors multiple channels of information

Over 100 large banks and thousands of smaller ones use LifeLock to monitor online transactions and protect consumers. LifeLock president Hilary Schneider said the product goes beyond basic credit monitoring and looks at a broad section of consumers’ accounts. “This is particularly important in a digital world where identity thieves are constantly changing tactics. Checking credit reports alone might not turn up fraud until months after it occurred,” said Schneider.

Stolen identities can result in charges to accounts, damage to credit reports, and hours lost to repairing the damage done. The faster folks are made aware of possible fraudulent activity on their accounts, the sooner they will be able to freeze accounts, have new credit cards issued, and contact credit bureaus to check for damage to their credit score.

Consumers can respond quickly to threats

When a LifeLock member’s personal information is at risk, they receive an alert by text or email. LifeLock’s Not Me® verification technology lets the member respond right away and say whether or not the activity is legitimate.

If the activity is found to be fraudulent, a LifeLock certified specialist will be available to walk members through the process of restoring identity and securing accounts. This process can be time-consuming and confusing for people to pursue on their own. Help and information is available at the Federal Trade Commission’s identity theft website. Steps to take are spelled out, and there is a wealth of information on dealing with identity theft.

Pricing starts at $9.99 a month for LifeLock Standard. LifeLock Advantage is $19.99 a month, and LifeLock Ultimate Plus is $29.99 a month. More information is available at
