The Starwood Preferred Guest, a customer loyalty program run by the Starwood Hotels and Resorts, in collaboration with American Express have unveiled credit cards that can be a boon to travelers on the move often.

This credit card is designed to offer privileged rewards to people who travel frequently either on leisure or for business purposes. The card will come into the market on May 1st and will be a co-branded card.

There are nine clear cut brands on the SPG portfolio. The Luxury collection, Le Meridian, St Regis, Westin, W, Four Points, Sheraton, Elements and Aloft are the brands. This group of hotels is spread over a 100 countries and has over 1000 resorts and hotels to its credit. The points are awarded on almost all purchases the customer makes using this card. There are a number of rewards for which the customer can trade these points at a later point in time.

The customer can redeem this for complimentary stay in hotels during either weekends or weekdays. There are no restrictions on the dates that the customer decides to choose.

The points can also be used to upgrade the room during the stay in the hotel.

Customers who use this card can use the points on this card to avail complimentary flights on a wide range of flights from over 350 major airlines which includes the British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and the American Airlines.

To experience truly a once in a lifetime opportunity, customers can also redeem these points for concert tickets in the VIP section and also a chance to meet the celebrities taking part in the concert.

One of the most recent surveys undertaken by this credit card major, American Express, clearly mentioned that over 50% of the people were using their cards that offer various rewards for spending on them. Only close to 28% of these cards offer various privileges relating to travel which include complimentary stay, free flights and room upgrades.

However the survey revealed that most users preferred to redeem their points for various travel related needs. Along with cashback facility and retail vouches, this feature forms the tops of the list of three most preferred redemption options.

American Express's Consumer Cards Head, Katrina Cliffe, mentioned "Reward cardholders are increasingly looking for new ways to be able to accumulate travel related benefits for their everyday spending. This is an ideal card for today's discerning travelers, particularly those who have an existing affinity to the Starwood Preferred Guest program and want to be able to earn Starpoints for all of the spending on their plastic."
