There’s a new way for businesses to accept credit card and debit card payments on the go. PaySimple, a cloud-based platform that lets small businesses manage their finances online, now offers a plug-in for iPhones and iPads. Business owners can swipe debit or credit cards to accept payments anywhere, anytime.

The device joins similar plug-in card readers from Square and PayPal. All three businesses offer the card readers free to users – although Square and PayPal devices are shipped free, while PaySimple charges $6.95 shipping and handling for the card-reading device.

PaySimple, Square and PayPal Here all charge business owners a similar percentage of each transaction, commonly called a swipe fee. But while Square and PayPal don’t charge a monthly fee, PaySimple offers that option for a lower swipe fee.

Charges break down like this:

  • PaySimple: Two plans – the Starter plan charges 3.49% + $0.39 of each swipe plus a monthly fee of $14.95; the Pro plan charges 2.49% + $0.29 of each transaction plus a monthly fee of $39.95.
  • Square: 2.75% of each transaction, 3.50% + $0.15 for each keyed-in or scanned transaction, no monthly fee.
  • PayPal Here: 2.70% of each transaction, 3.50% + $0.15 for each keyed-in or scanned transaction, no monthly fee.

The monthly fee for PaySimple also includes several features that allow owners to manage their businesses, such as customer record management, setting up recurring payments, scheduling bill payments and seeing real-time cash flow updates on their mobile devices. All these features are available through the Run-Your-Business App for iPhone and iPad, which is free. PaySimple Mobile lets users accept not just credit and debit cards but ACH payments as well.

The PaySimple mobile payment system and Run-Your-Business App are not yet available on Android operating systems. Square and PayPal Here, which have been on the market longer, are fully compatible with Android and iOS devices.
