News: A New American Express Transfer Points Bonus With Flying Blue - Credit-Land.com

If you're looking to fly with Air France or KLM using your American Express Membership Rewards points, you're lucky because you'll get a 25 percent bonus when you transfer your points to Flying Blue, the carriers' joint rewards program. This offer is in play from now until June 15, 2018, and there are no restrictions on how many points people can transfer to Flying Blue.

While there is no limit to how many points you can transfer to get the bonus, you might be wondering if there is a minimum number—and the answer is yes. You must transfer at least 1,000 points when taking advantage of this offer.

What does this mean in terms of points? When you transfer 2,000 points to Flying Blue, you actually end up with 2,500 points. Keep in mind that once you make the transfer you cannot transfer your points back.

Getting points to transfer

What if you don't have any American Express Membership Rewards points? You can check out a variety of consumer credit cards that let you earn these points, including the Platinum card, the Premier Rewards Gold card and the Amex EveryDay Preferred card.

There are also business cards that offer points, including:

  • Business Gold Rewards card from American Express OPEN

  • Business Platinum card from American Express OPEN

  • Blue Business Plus credit card from American Express

With some American Express cards, you start off earning bonus points with a minimum spend during the first 90 days you have the card. For instance, with the Platinum card, you get 60,000 points with a $5,000 spend, and with the Premier Rewards Gold card, you get 25,000 points with a $2,000 spend.

On the other hand, with the Business Platinum card from American Express OPEN, cardholders can earn up to 75,000 points. With a $10,000 spend, they get 50,000 points, and then with an additional spend of $10,000, they get another 25,000 points. These amounts must be spent during the first 90 days of having the card.

Small business owners with the Business Gold Rewards card from American Express OPEN can earn 50,000 bonus points with a $5,000 spend over the first three months after account opening.
