Looking for more points? If you have an American Express Platinum Card in your wallet or loaded into your mobile device you’re in luck. Amex is now offering card holders five times the rewards points, when booking airfare. To get the extra points they must book their flights through either American Express Travel or directly via the airline they are flying with.

The launch of this new initiative is timed to start before the holiday travel season, and to give cardholders a greater reach when it comes to hitting the road. “Travel is an important part of our Card Members’ lives and it’s becoming even more so for a new generation who are global and drawn to the access, experiences and service that come with American Express® Membership,” said Denise Pickett, president, U.S. consumer services for American Express.

They suggest that there will be more enhancements coming down the pike for Platinum and Business Platinum Card Members, along with new programs and initiatives, which includes their newly expanded portfolio of small business merchants who have started taking American Express at the stores.

More points and lounge access

Business Platinum Card Members also earn 50% points back when they use Membership Rewards Pay with Points when booking flights American Express Travel. This benefit is also in play when they book a first or business class ticket on all airlines, and they also earn 1.5X Membership Rewards points on every buck spent when buying any item costing $5,000 or more.

And more

Both Platinum Card Members and Business Platinum Card Members also get access to American Express’ Global Lounge Collection, giving them access to over 1,000 lounges worldwide. The collection includes Centurion lounge network, International American Express lounges, Delta Sky Clubs, Priority Pass Select and Airspace Lounges.

A wide range of other travel benefits are also included: a $200 Airline Fee Credit, free Bongo Wi-Fi hotspots, a Fee Credit for Global Entry or the TSA Pre Check program application and upgrades in Hilton HHonors Gold Status and Starwood Preferred Guest Gold Status. They can also access other free benefits when booking rooms through the Fine Hotels & Resorts program.
