News: Citi and Sears Giving More - Credit-Land.com

People with the Sears MasterCard will now be earning more Shop Your Way points when shopping, eating out and pumping gas. With this upgrade people earn 5% back in points with a gas station spent, and 3% back when shopping for groceries and eating out at restaurants.

What about when they shop at Sears? When checking out at Sears or Kmart they earn 2% back, while all other purchases get them 1% back in points. This point earning structure will be in play until December 31st, 2017. There is nothing to do, the points will be automatically added to their account.

This initiative is made possible by the partnership between Sears Holdings and Citi, a Credit-Land.com advertising partner, Retail Services, and is seen as a way to up value for cardholders.

"We are pleased to partner with Sears Holdings to bring this innovative new Shop Your Way offer through the Sears MasterCard to market," said Bill Johnson, Citi Retail Services' Chief Executive Officer. "This offer delivers the highest value on those categories that are most important to consumers and provides cardholders with the opportunity to earn considerably more Shop Your Way points in more places."

The breakdown

With this point upgrade people will earn 5% and 3% back depending upon whether they are buying groceries, gas or eating out, but earnings are not unlimited.

This earning stream will continue until they reach $10,000 in combined purchases in these categories, and from that point on they will earn 1% back.

The rewards

When it comes to time to redeem points, people can do so for everything from household products to big-ticket items, like kitchen appliances. Points can also be used with partners, like Uber, Pure Talk, Groupon, Avis Budget Group, and Liberty Mutual Insurance. People can also check out items they can get with points and review a full list of the partners via the Shop Your Way website.

People can redeem their points at will because there is no minimum requirement and there are no gift cards or certificates to wrangle with. People can access their points online or use the Shop Your Way app and redeem points right way.
