Did you ever wonder what the best credit cards are in terms of earning miles or points, getting cash back, or even what airline card is your best bet when traveling? You don't have to wonder any longer. U.S. News & World Report has just released their Best Credit Card Rankings with the United MileagePlus Club, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards card and The Blue Cash Preferred from American Express all taking first place in key categories.

"Whether you want to improve your credit history or score, receive rewards and vouchers or seek protection for your purchases, finding the right credit card is an important life decision," said Kim Heneghan, vice president and general manager of Money at U.S. News. "We developed the Best Credit Cards rankings to be a straightforward tool that allows consumers to find cards tailored to their specific needs and financial goals."

Travel cards make seeing the world easier

Most airlines have co-branded credit cards, and knowing what the top ones are can be a big bonus. The United MileagePlus Club card took the top spot followed by British Airways Visa Signature card. The Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Premier Credit Card took third place.

Hotel stays go hand-in-hand with airline tickets. The Ritz-Carlton Rewards credit card is number one in the hotel category, while the Starwood Preferred Guest card from American Express and Hilton HHonors Surpass Card from American Express, claimed the second and third place spots.

Points, miles and cash back please

Miles and points make the world go round when it comes to rewards programs, and correspondingly the top cards in the overall Best Points Cards category were taken by hotel cards with the Ritz-Carlton Rewards credit card coming in first, followed by the Starwood Preferred Guest card from American Express, Hilton Hhonors Surpass Card from American Express, and the Hyatt credit card.

Do you love getting cash back? Then you might be interested to know that the Blue Cash Preferred Card from American Express took the top spot in that category, followed by Barclays CashForward World MasterCard, third is the Blue Cash Everyday Card from American Express.

When developing the U.S. News & World Report best credit card rankings they looked at the cards features, which included everything from digital tools, EMV chip and image card capability, to customer experience.
