News: Virgin America, Citi Join Forces to Offer Rewards - Credit-Land.com

Citi cardholders can now use their ThankYou® points to book travel on Virgin America flights, by transferring their points to Virgin's Elevate loyalty program. An unlimited number of ThankYou points can be turned into Elevate points, at a two-to-one rate. That means 2,000 ThankYou points will translate to 1,000 Elevate points.

This newest partnership brings the number of Citi hotel and airline loyalty transfer partners to 14, giving cardholders a wide variety of options for transferring and redeeming their ThankYou points. Other transfer partners include Hilton HHonors, Asia Miles, Flying Blue, Qantas Frequent Flyer, and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club.

No blackout dates or restrictions on Virgin America reward travel

Virgin America reward flights start at 2,500 Elevate points. Routes include flights between San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston, Cancun, and other destinations across the United States and Mexico. Later in 2015, flights to Honolulu, Oahu, and Kahului, Maui will be available as well. There are no blackout dates or other restrictions on reward flights; Elevate members can redeem their points on any flight, any time.

Virgin America is based in California and has been named the best U.S. airline in Conde Nast Traveler's Readers' Choice Awards for seven years in a row. Travel + Leisure has also named it the best U.S. airline for the past eight years, in their World's Best Awards.

A unique inflight experience

Mood lighting, an inflight entertainment system, a touch screen on-demand menu, and power outlets at every seat are just some of the features that set Virgin America flights apart from other airlines. They also have Wi-Fi on all flights and leather seats designed for maximum traveler comfort.

"The inflight experience offered on Virgin America is unique, and we are pleased to now offer our cardmembers the ability to transfer their ThankYou points to Virgin Elevate points to experience it," said Citi's global head of rewards, Mary Hines Droesch.

Special promotion through October 21

To celebrate the partnership, Citi cardholders will get a little more value from their ThankYou points when they transfer them to the Virgin Elevate program.

Now through October 21, ThankYou points will get a 25% bonus on their Elevate points when they transfer at least 1,000 ThankYou points over. For every two ThankYou Points they transfer, Citi cardmembers will get 1.25 Elevate points. To transfer ThankYou points, go to thankyou.com/transfer, or call 1-800-ThankYou.
