Credit Cards With Rewards, But At What Cost

Updated: December 26, 2012

There are a lot of different kinds of credit cards and people receive marketing emails about it continually. Often it is confusing to decide because they are not sure of what they want and what will suit them best. Many people are often confused about the choices they have as one seems better than the other and all are vying to get the customer to pick their card. Reward credit cards can be fun if you know how to use them best. When you get a rewards card make sure the feature on it will be of use to you or else you will just end up paying high fees and interest rates and not be able to cope with the payments on the card at the end. Unless you are sure of what credit card works best for you, you should not apply for it. Shopping around for credit is not a wise option as it will reflect on your credit scores. Rewards credit cards are made to cater to different audiences. Some are for teenagers and youngsters in college with great discounts at their favorite music stores and brands. Others are designed for families which may help earn rewards like gas miles each time you fuel up. There are also reward cards made for businessmen, specifically those who travel frequently allowing them to accumulate reward points such which can be changed into hotel deals, flight costs and more. If you are someone who loves getting reward points and claiming that special dinner or the free gift by spending enough to earn reward points, you need to just take a moment to reevaluate the costs involved. For one thing, these rewards will be obtained after paying and spending a lot of money in interest rates, annual fees and purchases. When you actually compare the costs are twice or thrice more than the cost of the actual reward offered. There is plenty of evidence that many customers tend to shop more than usual especially when they are approaching a reward or a big buy. If you choose the right kind of reward cards and shop wisely you can have them working for you rather than you being the one working for the cards. You need to read through the fine print and make sure you know exactly what you are signing up for on your rewards credit card or else you will end up with a lot of hidden fees that fleece you at the end. Depending on how much you spend, what you spend on and what sort of payments you can afford you need to make your decisions about these rewards credit cards. When you look at certain cash back cards, you will find that there is no annual fee during the first couple of months. This makes it all the more appealing to customers making them believe they are saving each time they spend. However if you are not able to afford the additional payments and interests on the card, it will cost you heavily.
