That's a great question, and the answer depends on what cards you already have. Is one of your existing credit cards a card with a great rewards program? What kind of cash back, points, or miles will you get if you use it to make a major purchase? One thing to consider is getting a new credit card that offers a terrific sign-on bonus for spending a certain amount within the first few months of having the card. You could end up getting enough points to take a round-trip flight for free, or spend a romantic weekend in a hotel with your special someone – maybe it's the person you're making that major purchase for. It's usually a much better idea to apply for a new rewards credit card than to use in-store financing, or to get the store credit card if it doesn't offer substantial rewards and benefits.
