I stopped for gas the other day and the guy at the register asked if I wanted to sign up for a Sheetz card. Will applying for this card affect my credit score? What are the pros and cons of signing up?

A store loyalty card like the type you were offered isn’t actually a credit card, so you don’t need to worry about it potentially affecting your credit score one way or the other. The good news about that is, you’ll be approved no matter what your credit is like. Anyone can get this kind of card, which lets you earn rewards for making purchases at the gas station or convenience store that issues it. The pros are that you can get three cents a gallon off your gas purchases, and earn rewards like free drinks, food, and other merchandise. There’s really no downside to this card, but you have to understand that it’s not a credit card, it’s a customer rewards card. If you’d like an actual rewards credit card, there are plenty we can recommend.
