If I get the student debit card from Community First union, will I be able to build my credit history?

No. Debit cards as well as prepaid cards won’t allow you to build credit history. The reason is, you are not given access to a credit account and the debit card activity is not reported to the major credit bureaus. If you want to build your credit, you should apply for a credit card. If you are a student, you can choose a credit card from those offered to students. Student credit cards usually have lower interest rates and fees. Some of them even come with rewards.
